Paper Towns- an interesting term, isn’t it? I actually hadn’t heard the term “paper town” before I read this book, so I won’t spoil it for those of you who don’t know! Paper Towns is a book by John Green, who wrote The Fault In Our Stars and Looking For Alaskaso I assumed that I would like it!

Paper Towns Review

The story is about a group of high schoolers faced with a frightening situation (I don’t want to say what so I don’t ruin it!) that they must figure out. The story follows their progress as they attempt to figure out and cope with what has happened. In some ways, the main grouping of characters felt very similar to those in Looking For Alaska, which some people have found frustrating. I loved it though! Green’s writing is spectacular, and I love how he structures his stories. He weaves incredible thoughts and themes throughout his book, which I definitely appreciate. Here’s a quote that stood out to me:

“Maybe its like you said before, all of us being cracked open. Like each of us starts out as a watertight vessel. And then things happen – these people leave us, or don’t love us, or don’t get us, or we don’t get them, and we lose and fail and hurt one another. And the vessel starts to crack in places. And I mean, yeah once the vessel cracks open, the end becomes inevitable. Once it starts to rain inside the Osprey, it will never be remodeled. But there is all this time between when the cracks start to open up and when we finally fall apart. And its only that time that we see one another, because we see out of ourselves through our cracks and into others through theirs. When did we see each other face to face? Not until you saw into my cracks and I saw into yours. Before that we were just looking at ideas of each other, like looking at your window shade, but never seeing inside. But once the vessel cracks, the light can get in. The light can get out.”
Paper Towns was a quick read, and held my attention from start to finish. This book is definitely worth your time- especially if you enjoy John Green’s other books! Another perk to reading it- Paper Towns is being made into a movie, and is slated to be out in June of 2015! So, reading it now will get you ready for the summer!
Now it’s your turn to share! Tell me one great book that you’ve read recently? If you’ve read multiple John Green books, which one is your favorite?

  1. I’m dying to read this AND see the movie!

  2. I have not touched my books in forever. I have been so bad just reading blogs and magazines.

I try to at least end the day with 10-15 minutes so I get a bit of reading in. Last year I realized I was reading too many blogs and not enough books as well- so easy to do!
