The Little Things

What would it be like to live a life without limits? I really enjoy reading biographies and autobiographies, because I believe they can serve to teach us, provide models of resiliency, and inspire us as we pursue certain things in life! When I picked up Chrissie Wellington’s book “A Life Without Limits: A World Champion’s Journey”, I thought I was just getting a good story. What I didn’t realize was that I was getting some solid inspiration.

This autobiography, by Chrissie Wellington, is about her journey from undergrad student to Ironman (I won’t spoil it by saying how many times) and World Triathlon Champion. This story held my attention the entire time, and was truly inspiring. I actually took pictures of a few pages along the way because they spoke so much to me! I found myself feeling nervous and cheering out loud as I read this book.

This was a really quick read, and it takes the reader all over the world through various races and experiences in many cultures. If you’re looking for an inspiring read, even if you aren’t a triathlete, then I’d encourage you to consider this book! I’ll leave you with a quote from the book that stood out to me:

“I am motivated above all by the little voice inside that urges me on to fulfill my potential. Everyone has the same voice in them somewhere, but many are too scared to listen to it, too scared to try, too scared of failure. The fear is immobilizing, but it is also our own personal construct and therefore doesn’t exist in reality. Never imagine anything is impossible, and never stop trying out new things. My life has taken me to so many wonderful places and has truly enriched me. None of it would have been possible if I’d let timidity overcome the impulse to explore” (p. 143).

Encouraging and inspiring, right?

  1. I loved this book! I read it a few years ago. She has such an amazing story and I love how she’s still relatable to “normal” people. 🙂

This sounds really good! I can’t swim (unless you count the doggy paddle) and have always been afraid of deep water so I am always so inspired by triathletes. I’m definitely a runner at heart but this is exactly the type of read I would enjoy. Thanks for sharing, I am adding it to my to-read list!

The thing that also makes triathlon swims crazy is that not only do you have to swim, but you do it while being kicked and punched by others around you. There’s so much from the book that can be applied to the life of any athlete, so I hope you enjoyed the book!

  3. Just added to my Goodreads list 🙂
