When I sat down to read “Abundance of Katherines” I was feeling fairly excited, as I really love John Green (the author, who also wrote The Fault In Our Stars, Paper Towns, and Looking For Alaska, all of which I’ve read). I’ve LOVED this other books, so I had high hopes for this book as well. Seeing some of the reviews on good reads gave me a little concern, but I was excited nonetheless.
The story is about Colin, a highschooler who has a “thing” for girls named Katherine. Colin can’t seem to keep the Katherine’s he has dated, and has been dumped by 19 different Katherines. He sets off with his best friend on a road trip, as part of his journey to prove the “Theorem of Underlying Katherine Predictability”, which he hopes will help predict the future of relationships.
Honestly, I didn’t really like this book at all. If it wasn’t a John Green book, I probably wouldn’t have finished the book. That being said, I probably would’ve read the book if I’d known how much I would dislike it, simply because of the author. The book felt poorly overall to me, although there were some interesting parts. Colin anagrams things constantly in the book, and I got pretty frustrated with it. I gave “Abundance of Katherines” a 2 on goodreads, which I felt sad about. I REALLY wanted to like this book, but I just didn’t.
Boo, that stinks!
I know- I was a bit bummed 🙁
